Breaking News: Man United ownership update as £54m U-turn confirmed – DONE DEAL

Published

on

Man United is a special team in many respects, not the least of which is that they are the only publicly traded team in England.

Many saw United’s 2012 IPO on the New York Stock Exchange as a way to pay off the debt of over £400 million from the Glazers’ leveraged takeover, which had occurred over ten years earlier.

Even if it was clearly the case, their inclusion on the world’s biggest trading platform further confirms the strength of their brand.

Currently, the public owns about 22.5% of the club, which is about 5% less than Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s ownership interest, which makes him the most powerful person at Old Trafford.

Following a drawn-out takeover drama, in February of this year, Ratcliffe made an investment in United, to which the markets responded favourably.

Since the September 2023 drop, when it was first revealed that the Glazers were thinking about a partial rather than a full sale, the share price has risen to its greatest point.

According to recent events in New York, it seems that one investment group has profited greatly from the instability brought on by the ownership rigmarole.

Ariel Investments, a Chicago-based financial firm, initially purchased Man United shares in 2021 and has since grown to become the third-largest shareholder in the team.

The Glazers declared in November 2022 that they were considering making a strategic investment in the team, possibly with the goal of completing a takeover.

The value of the stock shot up, and it appeared like Ariel Investments saw an opening.

When the stock price reached $23, they sold their 3 million shares for a profit of £54 million.

According to sources like Sportico, Ariel has now repurchased the majority of those shares at a reduced cost, regaining their position as United’s largest institutional shareholder.

Their recent share repurchases have given them an overall ownership of 8.3 million shares, or slightly less than 5% of the firm and 15.7% of the Class A shares of the club.

What is the long-term plan of Ariel Investments at Manchester United?
The company’s constitution grants the markets only 3% of the voting rights, despite the fact that they own more than 20% of United’s total equity.

Furthermore, because outside investment in the club is so diverse, the 20% of owners seldom come together to operate as a unit and use their 3% vote in club governance.

What then is Ariel Investments hoping United would provide? Indeed, United pays a dividend, but it doesn’t have a particularly high yield.

The fact that Ariel Investments’ social media profile photo on platform X features a cartoon turtle holding a trophy high and the words “slow and steady wins the race” next to it may be revealing.

Considering United as a project for capital appreciation, they plan to cash out when they believe the team has attained its peak enterprise value or when a buyer wishes to acquire full control of the team.

Private equity is getting increasingly involved in football because many investors think the sport is about to hit a large revenue peak.

Although many believed that the European Super League would be the ultimate goal, that star-crossed breakaway venture has since failed. For the time being, the financiers will have to wait.

“We have accepted the offer since he doesn’t want to stay anymore…But this is not how football should be run, Man United is a threat to our beautiful game and FIFA have to intervene now”: Club manager confirms Man United bid for their ‘best player’ has been accepted and the player has already agreed to join the Reds

We’ve accepted the offer because he’s no longer interested in staying. However, Man United poses a threat to our beautiful game, and FIFA must step in right away. This is not how football should be handled. Man United’s offer for their “best player” has been accepted, the club boss says, and the player has already committed to joining the Reds.

Manchester United’s defence was powerful, but they also lacked a good defensive midfielder, which is why they gave up 58 goals in the Premier League the previous season.

The Red Devils are looking to replace the Brazilian since Casemiro is long past his peak and had his worst season to date last season.

If media claims are to be believed, Man Utd is getting close to signing Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi as a player.

TDF claims that at first glance, Arsenal appeared to be in the greatest position to entice the Spanish international away from the La Liga team.

But with Man Utd now leading and the Old Trafford team putting in a strong push, Sociedad is finding it challenging to hang on to Zubimendi.

According to the media source, the 20-time English champions are prepared to trigger the 60 million euro release clause in order to entice the 25-year-old regista.

A five-year contract has also been offered by Manchester United, meaning Zubimendi is now “one step away” from joining the Red Devils this summer.

It is said that the events over the following few days will be significant in this transfer drama. In addition to Zubimendi, Manuel Ugarte, a playmaker from Uruguay, has also been connected to Manchester United.

However, Sofyan Amrabat, who played on loan the previous season, could also be brought back.

Who should United buy in the current transfer window to bolster the starting holding midfield position at Old Trafford, in your opinion?

This weekend, Arsenal will play an early test of their Premier League title prospects when they travel to Aston Villa.

In the opening match of the new season, the Gunners defeated Wolves 2-0, with goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka for the home team.

Jurrien Timber is back in action for Arsenal ahead of their trip to Villa Park on opening weekend, so they have a comparatively clean sheet of health.

The Dutch defender was substituted in the second half of Arsenal’s match against Wolves, after missing the team’s final two preseason games.

Takehiro Tomiyasu’s knee injury kept him out of Arsenal’s preseason tour of the United States, and it will take him several weeks to return. Additionally sidelined due to a hamstring injury sustained during Euro 2024 is Kieran Tierney.

Despite struggling with a hip issue, Fabio Vieira could be able to play this weekend.

Leandro Trossard could replace Gabriel Martinelli on the left, but Mikel Arteta may stick with the same starting lineup against Unai Emery’s team.

Summertime acquisition After staying on the bench last Saturday, Riccardo Calafiori is healthy and available to play if the Gunners manager decides to make changes.

Along with Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, David Raya, and Gabriel Magalhães, he regularly plays center-half with William Saliba. This week, Arsenal’s five stars were chosen in the PFA Team of the Season.

TERMS AGREED: Man United reach agreement to finally secure first midfield signing as the world-class star arrives for medical

After adding three defenders and one shooter so far this summer, Manchester United supporters are eager for the squad to sign a midfield player. The Red Devils should make one soon, but not in the way you might expect.

Dan Ashworth has already had an impact on several of Manchester United’s summer transfer acquisitions. It’s not out of the ordinary for the former sports director of Newcastle United to be thinking ahead while the team keeps making improvements for the here and now.

Chido Obi-Martin, the standout player for Arsenal, is a perfect example of the kind of player Manchester United wants to sign.

Similarly, The Athletic notes that Sekou Kone of Guidars FC in Mali will be joining the Red Devils. Kone, who plays for the team, was born in 2006.

Though he mostly plays defensive middle, the 18-year-old is regarded as a strong player with the ability to play as a #6. Many teams were interested in signing Kone this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano, but Manchester United beat them to it.

Man Utd considers Kone, like they do Chido Obi-Martin, to be a long-term player. The Mali kid is headed to a totally different country, and the Red Devils know it might take some time for them to get used to it.

The 18-year-old need just turn to Yves Bissouma of Tottenham for guidance on the future. The 27-year-old travelled to France with LOSC Lille when he was 19 years old. After that, he played for Brighton until he turned 21 before joining Spurs.

Kone will like to pursue a career along these lines. As demonstrated by the recent success of Garnacho, Diallo, and Mainoo, Man United is a good place for young players to develop and break into the first squad. All the 18-year-old has to do is make sure he puts a lot of effort into his game.

With the addition of another excellent talent, the future appears bright for the Red Devils. Let’s hope Kone can mature as expected and make the first squad in the upcoming years.
