Turner wasn’t on Nuno Espirito Santo’s list of players for Forest’s game against Bournemouth.

Going to play for another team?

WHAT CAME ABOUT?

Matt Turner, who is the first choice custodian for the U.S. men’s national team, was noticeably missing from Nottingham Forest’s 18-person group on the first day of the 2024–25 season.

Turner was relegated to Forest’s third string during the preseason, and Saturday’s team shows that Nuno Espírito Santo still doesn’t want to use him. It looks like the 30-year-old will only have a chance at regular playing time if he leaves the club.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Turner played 17 times in the Premier League and other events for Forest in 2023–24, but he lost his starting spot to Belgian custodian Matz Sels in January because of his inconsistent play. Turner only kept two clean sheets in the league as a starter.

Carlos Miguel, a Brazilian custodian, was also signed by Forest this summer from Corinthians. On Saturday, he was put on the bench because Sels started in goal.

Turner played all three Copa America games for the USMNT, but Espirito Santo’s plan didn’t change.

Turner has until August 31 to find a new team. If he doesn’t, he might not get steady playing time until January, when the winter transfer window starts.

DID YOU KNOW?

According to CBS Sports, teams in the German Bundesliga and Spain’s La Liga are interested in Turner.

What will Turner do next?

On Saturday, Forest plays Bournemouth. The next weekend, they play Southampton. Turner, on the other hand, will try to find a new team during the last few days of the trade window.
