Premier League chief warns Man City face ’70-80′ points deduction if found guilty of 115 charges

The 115 Premier League allegations against Manchester City will be heard, and if found guilty, the defending champions could be demoted.
If Manchester City is found guilty in their impending hearing about their 115 Premier League charges, they could be subject to the kind of point deduction that would virtually guarantee relegation.
The City’s hearing is scheduled to start next month, and it is estimated that the procedures will go for around ten weeks. The four-time champions of the Premier League, who have not done anything wrong, refute any accusations.
However, City can face severe penalties if found guilty. Although specifics have not been disclosed prior to the hearing, it is believed that penalties and point deductions are among the options.
According to an anonymous executive, relegation is almost certain to occur if there is a points punishment of between 70 and 80 points. With 91 points at the end of the previous season, City was 65 points ahead of Luton Town in 18th place.
The anonymous executive told The Athletic, “The general consensus is that a suitable punishment would have to be a points deduction so significant—we’re talking about 70 to 80 points—that it guarantees City a season in the Championship.” An further anonymous source proposed that the team might be subject to deductions over the course of three seasons, which would be detrimental to their chances of qualifying for the Champions League.
Premier League chief Richard Masters stressed earlier in the week how critical it is to settle City’s lawsuit as quickly as possible. Masters told BBC Sport, “It’s time for the case to resolve itself.””It’s been ongoing for a while, and I believe it’s obvious that the case needs to be heard and resolved.”
In an April speech to a DCMS committee, he discussed additional point deductions Nottingham Forest and Everton received the previous campaign. “Any club, current champions or not, would be in exactly the same position as Everton or Nottingham Forest if they had been found in violation of the spending rules for 2023, but the volume and nature of the charges laid before Man City – which I obviously cannot talk about at all – are being heard in a completely different environment,” the player stated.
On Sunday, City will take on Chelsea in their latest title defence. In an effort to get off to a quick start, manager Pep Guardiola has said he would not quit if the team was proven guilty in the past.
Regarding the charges in 2023, Guardiola stated, “Until it is proven we are guilty, we are innocent.” “I am aware that many desire it. I sense it, I know it. I’ll hold off. After the phrase has been completed, wait and observe it. We will then come here and explain it.
“But without a doubt, I won’t think about my future if it depends on being in League One or here. Indeed. Being in League One gives us a better chance of staying than being in the Champions League.”
