Why Arsenal rejected Jadon Sancho transfer move as Mikel Arteta handed £65m reminder

Jadon Sancho is negotiating a loan move from Manchester United to Borussia Dortmund, a move that many Arsenal supporters were hoping to sabotage.

Why Arsenal rejected Jadon Sancho transfer move as Mikel Arteta handed £65m reminder

According to The Guardian, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund are in talks about Jadon Sancho possibly joining them on loan. Less than three years after being sold to the club for £73 million, the England international would be rejoining them.

After Sancho decided not to bring the former Dortmund player with him on his trip to play Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium earlier in the season, his relationship with Erik ten Hag soured. In the post-match press conference, ten Hag gave an explanation for why Sancho had not traveled, citing “his performance in training” as the reason behind the Red Devils’ 3-1 defeat.

Within an hour, Sancho would reply on social media, writing: “Please don’t believe everything you read! I’ve performed admirably this week in my training. I feel that there are more factors involved in this situation, which I won’t discuss because I’ve been made to feel unfairly blamed for a long time.”

Many Arsenal supporters who argued that the Gunners should pursue Sancho will unfortunately not get their wish as a loan move to Dortmund is imminent. But did Arsenal make the right choice by choosing not to play?

After a challenging stint at Chelsea, where he was unable to replicate the success he had during his own stint in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal made the decision to invest £65 million in Kai Havertz last summer. North London has been a difficult place for Arteta to find consistency, so the 24-year-old has started working on a personal project to help him regain his form and confidence.

After his troubles at United, Sancho will probably need a similar project to get back to his best. Arsenal is currently attempting to combat a run of bad results, so adding another challenge in the shape of a Sancho comeback would be counterproductive.

Moreover, it is clear that the player is pressing for a return to Germany, while Havertz was eager to continue in the Premier League to establish himself and even take a chance by traveling across the London-North divide to sign with Arsenal. When attempting to convince Sancho to make a comparable move, Edu Gaspar would be at a disadvantage.

Additionally, Manchester United itself is a factor. The two clubs haven’t done much business together very often, so it’s hard to understand why Ten Hag would want to bolster a team that he perceives as a rival.

The defense, midfield, and forward line are Arsenal’s areas of need in January. But Sancho doesn’t always have speed, and in the position he plays, it’s much more of a requirement.

The Gunners may be eager for a loan this winter to help them meet the Profit and Sustainability requirements, but Sancho is not. It appears that he will return to Dortmund, and it will be interesting to see how he does.

“We have accepted the offer since he doesn’t want to stay anymore…But this is not how football should be run, Man United is a threat to our beautiful game and FIFA have to intervene now”: Club manager confirms Man United bid for their ‘best player’ has been accepted and the player has already agreed to join the Reds

We’ve accepted the offer because he’s no longer interested in staying. However, Man United poses a threat to our beautiful game, and FIFA must step in right away. This is not how football should be handled. Man United’s offer for their “best player” has been accepted, the club boss says, and the player has already committed to joining the Reds.

Manchester United’s defence was powerful, but they also lacked a good defensive midfielder, which is why they gave up 58 goals in the Premier League the previous season.

The Red Devils are looking to replace the Brazilian since Casemiro is long past his peak and had his worst season to date last season.

If media claims are to be believed, Man Utd is getting close to signing Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi as a player.

TDF claims that at first glance, Arsenal appeared to be in the greatest position to entice the Spanish international away from the La Liga team.

But with Man Utd now leading and the Old Trafford team putting in a strong push, Sociedad is finding it challenging to hang on to Zubimendi.

According to the media source, the 20-time English champions are prepared to trigger the 60 million euro release clause in order to entice the 25-year-old regista.

A five-year contract has also been offered by Manchester United, meaning Zubimendi is now “one step away” from joining the Red Devils this summer.

It is said that the events over the following few days will be significant in this transfer drama. In addition to Zubimendi, Manuel Ugarte, a playmaker from Uruguay, has also been connected to Manchester United.

However, Sofyan Amrabat, who played on loan the previous season, could also be brought back.

Who should United buy in the current transfer window to bolster the starting holding midfield position at Old Trafford, in your opinion?

This weekend, Arsenal will play an early test of their Premier League title prospects when they travel to Aston Villa.

In the opening match of the new season, the Gunners defeated Wolves 2-0, with goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka for the home team.

Jurrien Timber is back in action for Arsenal ahead of their trip to Villa Park on opening weekend, so they have a comparatively clean sheet of health.

The Dutch defender was substituted in the second half of Arsenal’s match against Wolves, after missing the team’s final two preseason games.

Takehiro Tomiyasu’s knee injury kept him out of Arsenal’s preseason tour of the United States, and it will take him several weeks to return. Additionally sidelined due to a hamstring injury sustained during Euro 2024 is Kieran Tierney.

Despite struggling with a hip issue, Fabio Vieira could be able to play this weekend.

Leandro Trossard could replace Gabriel Martinelli on the left, but Mikel Arteta may stick with the same starting lineup against Unai Emery’s team.

Summertime acquisition After staying on the bench last Saturday, Riccardo Calafiori is healthy and available to play if the Gunners manager decides to make changes.

Along with Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, David Raya, and Gabriel Magalhães, he regularly plays center-half with William Saliba. This week, Arsenal’s five stars were chosen in the PFA Team of the Season.

TERMS AGREED: Man United reach agreement to finally secure first midfield signing as the world-class star arrives for medical

After adding three defenders and one shooter so far this summer, Manchester United supporters are eager for the squad to sign a midfield player. The Red Devils should make one soon, but not in the way you might expect.

Dan Ashworth has already had an impact on several of Manchester United’s summer transfer acquisitions. It’s not out of the ordinary for the former sports director of Newcastle United to be thinking ahead while the team keeps making improvements for the here and now.

Chido Obi-Martin, the standout player for Arsenal, is a perfect example of the kind of player Manchester United wants to sign.

Similarly, The Athletic notes that Sekou Kone of Guidars FC in Mali will be joining the Red Devils. Kone, who plays for the team, was born in 2006.

Though he mostly plays defensive middle, the 18-year-old is regarded as a strong player with the ability to play as a #6. Many teams were interested in signing Kone this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano, but Manchester United beat them to it.

Man Utd considers Kone, like they do Chido Obi-Martin, to be a long-term player. The Mali kid is headed to a totally different country, and the Red Devils know it might take some time for them to get used to it.

The 18-year-old need just turn to Yves Bissouma of Tottenham for guidance on the future. The 27-year-old travelled to France with LOSC Lille when he was 19 years old. After that, he played for Brighton until he turned 21 before joining Spurs.

Kone will like to pursue a career along these lines. As demonstrated by the recent success of Garnacho, Diallo, and Mainoo, Man United is a good place for young players to develop and break into the first squad. All the 18-year-old has to do is make sure he puts a lot of effort into his game.

With the addition of another excellent talent, the future appears bright for the Red Devils. Let’s hope Kone can mature as expected and make the first squad in the upcoming years.
